I've been looking at this guy for a few days and figured I'd offer you a little advice as you mention you're striving for semi-realism. As surrealism this works perfect. If you want to craft it more toward realism you should address the lack of interior lighting of the mouth to match the eyes, nose, ears and fissures. His teeth are beautiful but fully lit in opposition to your overall lighting. Since I must fill at least 100 words (I don't have a clue why), yes, his fur needs work but that's all part of the learning curve. If you dropped the background and printed him on a shirt I'd buy one as his expression and body language are perfection. He's not quite attacking the viewer yet so his ears are still forward in the aggressive position, otherwise I'd say they should be pinned. I had a psycho dog once that made this expression before going berserk. He looks like an Australian shepherd or similar breed of feral dog. He's awesome.
